About Us
At the edge of the fjord, nestled beneath towering mountains in the remote village of Øye in Ørsta municipality lies one of Norway’s most iconic and storied hotels: Hotel Union Øye. Since 1891, this legendary retreat has welcomed royalty, writers, mountaineers, and curious travelers in search of inspiration, elegance, and tranquility.

Today, as a proud member of Relais & Châteaux, we continue to deliver world-class guest experiences rooted in nature, heritage, and craftsmanship.

Hotel Union Øye is more than a hotel—it’s a destination. As part of the family-owned hospitality group 62NORD, we are driven by a shared vision to shape sustainable and unforgettable travel experiences in the heart of Sunnmøre, on the west coast of Norway, surrounded by deep fjords, wild nature, and dramatic peaks.

Our food and beverage offering is a cornerstone of the guest experience. We proudly operate two distinct restaurant concepts:

  • The Conservatory: The Conservatory is our fine dining restaurant where we present a set menu based on seasonality and the best local produce. Our guests can feel the warmth of the open fireplace and enjoy the views of the fjord, gardens, and the Sunnmøre Alps.

  • The Historical Dining Room: Our historic dining hall, where both Roald Amundsen, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and royalty have dined, right here, between these historic walls. Our guests can choose from our carefully curated À la carte menu.

We blend Nordic culinary traditions with local produce and storytelling.

At the heart of it all is our growing wine program, where the role of the Sommelier is key to creating unforgettable moments.

Role Requirements

We are now looking for an experienced and passionate Sommelier to join our restaurant team. This is a hands-on role where you will curate and manage our wine program, deliver exceptional wine service, and create meaningful connections between food, wine, people, and place.

You will work closely with the Head Chef and Restaurant Manager to develop pairings that enhance our seasonal menus, lead tastings, and share your knowledge and enthusiasm with guests and colleagues alike.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the hotel’s full wine program, including selection, storage, and inventory

  • Recommending and pairing wines with tasting menus and à la carte dishes

  • Leading wine tastings and storytelling experiences for guests

  • Training and mentoring restaurant staff in wine knowledge and service

  • Managing wine orders, supplier relationships, and cost control

  • Contributing to the development of beverage menus, including non-alcoholic pairings

Who are you?

About You

You are a storyteller at heart, with a deep appreciation for wine, terroir, and guest experience. You thrive in a collaborative environment and bring both expertise and humility to your work. You love connecting with guests and are energized by sharing your passion for wine in a thoughtful, engaging way.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience as a sommelier or wine-focused role in fine dining or luxury hospitality

  • Holds formal wine education

  • Has strong knowledge of international and Nordic wines, including food pairings

  • Is a confident communicator and gracious host, fluent in English (other languages are a plus)

  • Works well in a small, dedicated team and contributes with a positive, proactive mindset

  • Is excited to live and work in a remote, nature-rich environment

We offer:

  • Competitive salary and benefits

  • On-site accommodation options

  • An inspiring and supportive work environment

  • Access to local experiences and nature-based adventures
