A movement with meaning
Created in 1954, Relais & Châteaux is a global Association of 580 exceptional hotels and restaurants, all independently owned and operated, often by families, and all united by a passion for hospitality, a dedication to authenticity and a commitment to nurturing long-lasting relationships with guests.
Our members are devoted to protecting, preserving and promoting the wealth and diversity of the world's culinary and hospitality traditions. Their determination to conserve local culture, heritage and the environment was proudly expressed in a Manifesto presented to UNESCO in November 2014.
Found across five continents, Relais & Châteaux invites you to discover Venetian palaces, Norwegian fjords, lush Hawaiian gardens and even Argentinian glaciers. Our properties have often been passed down several generations of the same family, from the coast of Brittany to the crystal-clear beaches of Grenada, Costa Rican waterfalls and thermal springs in Japan.
Exceptional cuisine
Our Association constitutes the world's largest network of Michelin-starred restaurants. We are also the proud holders of a large number of green stars which demonstrate the commitment, values and actions of our chefs toward sustainable gastronomy.
Each restaurant pays homage to cuisine that celebrates its roots in the local communities and traditions of each region of the world. Our restaurants offer three types of cuisine: creative, traditional and local, and our chefs strive to source produce from as close to their property as possible, with much grown on site. They honor the terroir of their region by cooking traditional recipes and reinterpreting them in avant-garde ways.

Sustainability has always been in our DNA, along
with our dedication to preserving biodiversity
and honoring the natural heritage of our local
terroirs. Our Association works with several
non-governmental organizations to ensure we
maintain the commitments we made to UNESCO
in November 2014.

Our 800 restaurants represent the world’s largest
network of chefs, who in turn collectively hold a total
of 370 Michelin stars, of which 33 are green stars.
Each chef is distinctively talented, while committed
to preserving natural resources and perpetuating
the world’s diverse culinary cultures and traditions.
