Being a Kitchen Porter at The Gilpin Hotel & Lake House requires bucket loads of enthusiasm. With three very different kitchens on our beautiful sites – we employ staff with a range of culinary skills and qualifications ranging from creative chefs with Michelin Star experience to our much-needed and hard-working kitchen porters. Every staff member is important in helping to create a smooth and incredible dining experience for our guests.
A Kitchen Porter
- Washes and sanitises dishes, utensils, pots and pans either manually or using dishwashing equipment, ensures that all items are thoroughly cleaned and ready for use.
- Maintains cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, including work surfaces, equipment, and appliances such as ovens, grills, and stove tops.
- Sanitises kitchen tools and equipment to prevent cross-contamination.
- Disposes of waste and recycling, ensures that rubbish and recycling bins are emptied regularly and that waste is disposed of correctly, following health and safety guidelines.
- Sweeps and mops floors, cleans walls and ceilings, and ensures proper ventilation.
- Assists with the organisation and stocking of supplies, such as cutlery, crockery and cleaning materials. Helps with receiving and storing deliveries of food and other kitchen items.
- Supports kitchen staff by assisting in food preparation tasks, such as peeling and chopping vegetables, fetching ingredients or equipment as needed.
- Helps with basic food plating and garnishing.
- Follows health and safety regulations and policies, adhering to food safety guidelines and ensures proper storage and handling of food items.
- Works closely and collaboratively with chefs, cooks, and other kitchen staff members.
- Communicates and shows teamwork skills to help coordinate tasks efficiently and ensure a smooth workflow.
- Maintains a clean, tidy, organised and safe working environment at all times.
- Is presentable at all times in clean pressed uniform, with long hair tied back. Attention to personal hygiene is also extremely important.
- Report for work in the kitchen on time and fit to work.
- Maintains a high level of personal hygiene.
- Clock in and out daily as a non-negotiable.
- Act professionally at all times and set a good example to other members of the team.
- Follow rules of the kitchen and follow the timetables set.
- Have a positive attitude to the kitchen every day.
- Be flexible to rota changes.
- Report any issues to the next senior member in line.
- Hold a Food Hygiene qualification.
- Ability to work in a busy environment and under pressure
- Ability to work under own initiative
- Excellent organisational skills
- Strong sense of need for achievement of goals and success
- High level of motivation, determination and commitment
- Can act as a First Aid Aider or Fire Warden in the event of an accident or emergency.
Salary: £12.25 - £12.50 per hour (equating to £28,665 to £29,250)
Gratuities are allocated on a points basis, depending on development tiers. Although variable, average levels are projected as being from £153 to £350 per month.
Hours: 45 hours per week.
